Last year's birthday cake

These pics are from last year when The Toddler* and his Toddler Pal had a joint birthday party. Isn't that cake amazing? Toddler Pal's mum made it. From scratch! I'm posting about it today because this year the boys are having another joint party with a pirate theme. And guess who's baking the cake. Yup. Me. I love baking and can whip up muffins, cupcakes, lemon cakes, chocolate cakes, etc. no problem. But I have never attempted a fancy cake. Gulp. Wish me luck! (Any tips, links or recipes will be gratefully received!)

*The Toddler will be 3 soon so I guess that means he's not actually a toddler anymore. I can't believe how time has flown! I suppose I should start calling him The Boy :-)

And finally, a quick update since I have been awol for a while. There have been loads of things going on in the Hello Olive household lately. We've taken the plunge and are moving to the burbs. Gulp. That means leaving the vibey city behind but we get our own garden (yippee) and most importantly we are in a catchment area for a very good school for The Toddler. It has been so stressful finding a place to live as lots of families move to the suburbs for schools, so there is loads of competition for rental properties. (I know this is problem everywhere these days.)

But thank goodness, our search is over. Now the fun bit - packing. Eek, we still have boxes we haven't unpacked from our move from Scotland TWO years ago! (The joys of a small flat with virtually no storage.) Luckily we have a couple of months to sort everything out before we have to pack up and leave.

And in other news, Caroline of Scraps Of Us has given me a Liebster Award! Thanks Caroline, your blog is one of my faves so I really appreciate it :-) If you haven't already discovered Scraps Of Us go check it out now - Caroline takes the most amazing photos!

Anyhoo, that's my news. Hopefully now that things have calmed down a bit I'll get my blogging mojo back :-)

Daydreaming of summer...

It's a bit of a cold grey day today and I have just spent the entire morning in a stuffy government building attempting to renew my passport. Phew, I need a huge dose of sunshine and fresh air, so I'm longing for a bit of summer. These pics were taken earlier this year around the flat... There aren't loads as The Toddler was going through a phase of not liking the camera, and to be honest, it can be so tiresome dragging my SLR around all the time. Anyway, I really must make more of an effort!
